without a reflection…

…I would not recognize the stranger before me. All angles and lines worn deep with worry. Avoiding the inevitable
by turning off the light
the stranger
utters a pungent oath, walks away, finds a salty puddle
sees without a reflection.

  1. I’ve often thought of banning mirrors in my house.
I’m always disappointed by the reflection. But a reflection is not a person. It’s nothing more than a fleeting glimpse at the superficial. The heart, and the soul, are where a person is to be found.
